Isabella could tell from Maxwell’s
pronounced dark circles that he must have spent the night waiting outside.
Having seen her taken away by Alexander from the orphanage yesterday, Maxwell had immediately followed, only to be thwarted by the tight security of the Military Base Residential Complex.
Despite his skills, he dared not rashly break in, leaving him no choice but to wait in anguish outside.
Isabella quickly intervened upon seeing Maxwell’s righteous
indignation. “Don’t be rash!”
She pushed Maxwell aside and got into the car, her mind replaying the

unceremoniously dropped off by Alexander, letting out a heavy sigh.
Once inside, Maxwell glanced at
Isabella through the rearview mirror, unable to suppress a sigh.
She deserved to be the center of attention, not subjected to such
indignities. “Take me back to the university,” she requested.
With no other option, Maxwell complied, parking in front of
Riverdale University. He got out first,
opening the car door for Isabella
with gentlemanly grace.
Maxwell’s handsome features,
combined with his casual attire, radiated a sunny charm that belied his true nature as a top–tier assassin.
His appearance immediately caught the attention of passing female

“Which department’s heartthrob is he? How come I’ve never seen him
before?”
“Don’t you dare compete with me; he’s mine!”
The girls secretly swooned over him, only to be shocked the next moment when Isabella stepped out of the car.
“Isn’t that Isabella?!”
“It really is her. Told you she’s the best at hooking up with guys!”
Although Isabella couldn’t hear their whispers from a distance, she could sense the disdain in their eyes.
“Just go,” she said dismissively, turning to walk into the campus.
Not far from the entrance, she was stopped by a middle–aged man wearing glasses.

The man, appearing to be in his early forties with a beer belly, flaunted a flashy gold watch on his wrist as if desperate to advertise his
wealth.
“What do you want?” Isabella frowned, not recognizing this
character from her past encounters.
“Sweetheart, sorry to burst your bubble, but pretending not to know me?”
The term ‘sweetheart‘ made
Isabella’s skin crawl. The man’s voice was loud enough to attract the curious glances of passing students.
“Who are you? Should I know you?” Isabella queried, her eyes sharpening with suspicion.
“Hey, Isabella, don’t play dumb with me. I came here to ask you, where were you last night? I waited for you

all night,” the man claimed,
confusing Isabella and stopping bystanders in their tracks.
It seemed as though this man and Isabella shared a peculiar
relationship.
“Where I was is none of your
business. Move aside, or I’ll call
security,” Isabella retorted. The school, after all, occasionally had security patrols, but the man seemed undeterred.
“Who are you trying to scare? I’m spending money on you, and here you are, playing the field, hooking up with other men.”
The crowd’s interest was instantly piqued–this was juicy gossip!
